Love & Exile is a multi-genre album with an international feel. Several tracks are tied to my past in South Africa during apartheid. “Free Yourself (In Memory of Steve Biko)” is a tribute to the Black Consciousness leader who had a major impact on my life. During my late teens I attended a small, illegal gathering he addressed, and I left South Africa a few years afterwards because of his words that day. He was later murdered in police custody.
